They were invented by Linn Kastan (founder of Red Line, currently stylized as "Redline") in 1974 for BMX bikes and were such a popular upgrade among BMX racers that they soon became the de facto standard type of fork for BMXs in general. By the late 1970s all BMXs came stock with straight-blade forks, and it remains that way to this day. If you think that doesn't count because BMXs are small; 24"-wheel and 26"-wheel BMX cruisers also used straight-blade forks (look at Daniel's Mongoose Two/Four in the movie The Karate Kid [1984] for example), as did some early mountain bikes. Look up a picture of a Breezer Series I from 1978 for example, which is considered the world's first purpose-built mountain bike. It has the same type of fork that Linn Kastan invented in 1974; it's just longer to accommodate a 26" wheel. Early '80s Cook Bros. mountain bikes also used that type of fork.

You could pick up a simple woodworking angle gauge to make your bar bends a bit more consistent. Love your magic, but it’s a cheap tool and could help.

Love your builds. Theyre VERY similar to my own. I even have a polished aluminum frame too. Its so trippy to see your bikes! I havent seen Topline cranks in quite awhile. The Cooks Bros dogbone cranks were my go to waaaay back when. I think you might dig my shifters. I modded XT thumbies to fit in the hooks under my brake hoods. Left shifter goes on right side and visa versa. I got sick of shifting my bar ends with my legs on accident. They sweep across an 11speed cassette with a 9 speed derailleur, if you're curious.
